Petal School District administrators, faculty and staff kicked off the 2017-18 school year with the district’s annual opening convocation.
The convocation is a time to get all employees together each year to get everyone excited for the upcoming school year and rally around the new theme for the year.
Each year, a mission team from Calvary Baptist Church travels to Belize to minister to children in nearby villages.
Katie Pittman, a Petal resident, just returned from her third year of taking part in the annual trip to Belize.
Mayor Hal Marx explained the city-wide pavement survey report, which was conducted by Shows, Dearman and Waits, at a regular meeting of the Petal Board of Aldermen on Tuesday.
Marx offered a brief explanation of the report and what it means for the city moving forward.
“You can smell the wax on the floors, the drums from band camp and the whistles from football, that’s how you know school is close to starting back,” Petal School District Superintendent Dr. Matt Dillon said at a regular meeting of the board on Thursday.
