Grant provides funds for rope course to challenge students physically, mentally

Oak Grove Upper Elementary School students and faculty got the opportunity to see the first sign of the health and fitness grant from Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation of almost $100,000 with the ropes challenge course. The 12-stage play area was installed last week.

Rushing attack propels Lumberton past Vardaman

LUMBERTON – The Lumberton Panthers used a dominating ground game and a defense that kept Vardaman out of the end zone until the fourth quarter to capture a 38-10 Class 1A first-round playoff game Friday night.

The victory sends the Panthers (10-2) to next week’s game against Resurrection (6-6), which defeated French Camp 34-7 Friday.

Artist Heidi Pitre puts a face on public art installment

Heidi Pitre had been spurred on for the past two years to paint something on the side of the Grove Transit building on Hardy Street across from the Hattiesburg Zoo. Painting something that large was a journey into the unknown for the New Orleans native now splitting time between Hattiesburg and Austin, Texas.

Oak Grove marching band earns first place in state competition

The Oak Grove High School Marching Band set its sights on being the best band in the state, which it achieved when it brought home the huge first-place trophy.

For the first time, the Warriors were the best Class 6A marching band in the state. And the entire school and community celebrated the success.
