The Lamar County School District’s Board of Trustees handled several 16th Section Lands lease transactions during the March 9 meeting at the boardroom in Purvis, including approving a bid from Blackwell Timber Company of $62,371 for thinning timber on a lease.
A request for a historical marker at the former John Jefferson High School site in Purvis is being considered by the Lamar County School District Board of Trustees after the proposal was presented to the board last week.
The Lumberton School District’s Board of Trustees said Thursday night it supports a proposal for consolidation from the Lamar County School Board and “will continue a conversation,” Lumberton Superintendent Dr. Linda Smith said after the board meeting.
Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny L. DuPree will face Democratic opposition in the Primary Election May 2 from Catherine M. Starr and Tom Garmon. The winner will face independents Shawn O’Hara and state Rep. Toby Barker – both independents – in the General Election June 6.
The Lumberton School Board, which is under legislative order to abolish its district by July 2019, will begin considering a proposal today that will keep the current Lumberton schools as they are and place them under the direction of the Lamar County School District.
