Realtor Assoc. donates to Habitat

Who better to help support the building of a new Habitat for Humanity house than the Hattiesburg Area Association of Realtors.

Sinnana S. Jones, chairman for the Community Service Committee, and area real estate associates recently donated $15,995 to the non-profit group, which is currently framing a house in Petal for a single mom and her children.

Habitat’s next house will be constructed in Columbia. They most recently dedicated a house in Laurel.

Laura Goodwin-Wright, finance manager for Habitat, said they were “very excited about this amazing donation.

“If the Realtors’ group decides to choose us again, we may save this money and build a Hattiesburg Area Association of Realtors house,” said Goodwin- Wright.

According to Jones, the funds were raised during the fourth annual Realtors Crawfish Boil, which was held at Patio 44 during the spring.

“We sell sponsorships to businesses and well as receive donations,” she said. A raffle/silent auction is also part of the all-you-can-eat crawfish fundraiser.

Open to the public, about 450 tickets were sold this year.

Jones explained that the Realtors group chooses a different charity to support each year. “We look for those who have needs in the community,” she said.

The group has also held two poker runs in their efforts to raise funds for nursing homes, the humane societies, Abbie Rogers Civitan Camp, St. Jude, Make-A-Wish, domestic abuse and children’s shelters and tornado relief.

The Realtors association is comprised of Pine Belt-area real estate associates and affiliate members such as attorneys, title companies and others.
