FGH Cancer Center renovating OPACS
Forrest Health’s latest construction project at the Forrest General Cancer Center involves renovating the first floor of the Cancer Center to expand Outpatient Clinical Solutions (OPACS).
In addition to the expansion, a new and more comfortable waiting area and lobby will also be constructed. The entire project will take more than a year to complete, resulting in a more comfortable and convenient setting for patients.
OPACS is an outpatient infusion and chemotherapy unit providing chemotherapy, infusion therapy, blood transfusion, vascular access device management, ambulatory pump home infusions, team consults, and lab monitoring. OPACS is currently housed at the Cancer Center and staffed with an on-site pharmacist and specially-trained nurses.
“After the project has been completed, the set-up of the Cancer Center will be more convenient for our patients because everything will be in one place. Cancer treatment can be a physically and emotionally challenging experience. We want to do our part to make everything as convenient and comfortable as possible,” said Joe Marcello, Oncology Service Line Administrator.
The new infusion center (OPACS) and family waiting area is the first part of Together… We Can! Advancing Cancer Care, the Forrest General Healthcare Foundation’s current fundraising campaign. The project will also include The Healing Garden and a new Patient Navigation Services Program. The Healing Garden, which will be adjacent to the Cancer Center, will offer patients, loved ones and visitors a quiet, outdoor space away from treatment areas. The Garden will be open to all, every day, from dawn to dusk offering a place to spend time alone to think, rest, and regain emotional and physical energy. The Patient Navigation Services Program will help guide patients to live with, through, and beyond cancer. From screenings to treatment and follow up care, the Patient Navigator will educate patients and their families and coordinate consistent care between individual patients and the various healthcare providers.
