Hburg Clinic opens new units

Hattiesburg Clinic recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new dialysis facility, West Hattiesburg Dialysis Unit, at 6855 Lincoln Road Ext., Ste. 60, in Hattiesburg. It also reopened its Columbia facility, Columbia Dialysis, two years after it was destroyed by a Dec. 23, 2014, tornado.

Patients, staff, clinic administration, physicians and members of the community attended the ribbon cutting and open house.

“Hattiesburg Clinic has always put its patients first. That’s why we have decided to open a dialysis unit here in Lamar County,” the clinic’s Medical Director and Nephrologist H. Allen Gersh, MD, told the crowd during the ceremony. “Kidney disease affects a lot of people, and we have made a commitment to caring for those living with this disease in our area.”

West Hattiesburg Dialysis Unit is Hattiesburg Clinic’s first dialysis facility in Lamar County and the county’s first outpatient dialysis unit.

The new Columbia facility is located at the same site as the previous building, 1214 Hwy. 98 Bypass. The clinic has been working towards rebuilding ever since. Due to significant damage to the structure’s foundation, the new unit had to be completely redesigned.

“Our Columbia Dialysis team has continued to provide services to our Columbia patients at the neighboring Tylertown, Silver Creek and Hattiesburg Dialysis units all this time, but we are so excited to once again have a physical presence in the Columbia area,” said Chief Dialysis Officer Tammy Gargis. “The Columbia Dialysis facility is very important to patients in Columbia and surrounding areas who require dialysis therapy three times a week. We know that having a local dialysis unit eases the hardship of traveling out of town and allows dialysis patients to receive their treatments and care in their hometown.”

The dialysis unit in Columbia provides services to approximately 80 patients in Columbia and the outlying area, according to Gargis. The Columbia Dialysis employees have been recognized for their quick life-saving response during the tornado.

“If not for the quick thinking and action of the Dialysis employees present that day, there certainly would have been many injuries or worse,” Hattiesburg Clinic Executive Director Tommy Thornton said as he recognized the staff.
