Loretta “Lorrie” Sykes, a volunteer firefighter in Lamar County for two years, was remembered as a giving, serving and well-rounded person during her funeral service Monday.
It’s that time again. Staff at the Petal School District is seeking nominations for the Petal School District Hall of Fame. From those nominations, the person(s) selected will be recognized alongside 28 other outstanding graduates from the district.
The Lamar County School District’s Board of Trustees handled several 16th Section Lands lease transactions during the March 9 meeting at the boardroom in Purvis, including approving a bid from Blackwell Timber Company of $62,371 for thinning timber on a lease.
The Lumberton School District’s Board of Trustees said Thursday night it supports a proposal for consolidation from the Lamar County School Board and “will continue a conversation,” Lumberton Superintendent Dr. Linda Smith said after the board meeting.
