Hattiesburg, Laurel primed for monster South State Title game

There couldn’t be a better scenario drawn up for football fans in Hattiesburg. Rivals Hattiesburg and Laurel will tangle one more time in 2017, and this time it’s for the right to play for a 5A State Championship. It’s the third straight season the two will meet in the postseason, too.

The song soaring through my headphones for this month’s  offering is “Given to Fly”  from the 1998 release, Yield, by Seattle rockers Pearl Jam.

For me, this was my rediscovery of a band that I’d come very close to letting go completely. By this point in the 90’s, the alternative/grunge movement was close dying out completely.

After Petal was hit by a tornado in January, numerous school districts reached out to Petal School District to offer assistance.
