The metropolitan area around Hattiesburg has blossomed economically as shown through the November unemployment figures as Mississippi recorded its lowest unemployment rate in history at 4.8 percent.

Forrest County’s unemployment rate has decreased for the past five months, from 6.0 percent in July to 4.1 percent in November.

Nine students from the Petal School District received their presents early as they took part in the district police department’s annual Shop with Panther Police.

The program began three years ago at the suggestion of Petal School District Chief of Police Gavin Guy.

After Petal was hit by a tornado in January, numerous school districts reached out to Petal School District to offer assistance.
