Church equipment vandalized

Breaking into a church is not a common occurrence in most cities, especially when nothing is reported missing, according to Hattiesburg law enforcement officials.

Lt. Jon Traxler, the Hattiesburg Police Department’s public information officer, said most break-ins involve thefts.

“It’s very unusual for someone to break into a church,” he said. “And just to have it vandalized also is not very common. The suspects will usually take something like food or electronic equipment.”

Early last Thursday, someone reported that Main Street Baptist Church in the first block of North Main Street was broken into. Equipment inside the church was vandalized. Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
