LCSD deals with land leases

The Lamar County School District’s Board of Trustees handled several 16th Section Lands lease transactions during the March 9 meeting at the boardroom in Purvis, including approving a bid from Blackwell Timber Company of $62,371 for thinning timber on a lease.

The board also canceled two 16th Section Lands leases – a 25-year lease held by Living Word Church because of damage to property and a lease on 1.59 acres held by Deloise Smith on Grantham Road.

Approval was given to David Anderson for a new 16th Section Lands lease amount on 37 acres valued at $110,000. And Lanell Bowman’s new 16th Section Lands lease amount was set at $40 a month.

In other action, the board:

• Approved the General Agenda.

• Approved Minutes of the Feb. 13 meeting and the Feb. 23 and March 2 Special Called meetings.

• Approved Monthly Financial Report for January.

• Heard from Patricia Shelby that she would not be selling her property on Martin Luther King Drive in Purvis.

• Removed from Payroll Leanna Acosta, Valerie Antoinette and Felicia Taylor as Oak Grove Middle School Custodians due to outsourcing; and San Juana Roderigeuz as Cafeteria Worker at Sumrall Elementary School effective Feb. 23.

• Announced the resignations of Kimberly Mandich as School Nurse at Oak Grove Upper Elementary School effective at the end of the 2016-17 school year; Rebekah Baylis Satcher as Teacher at Oak Grove Lower Elementary School effective March 9; Amy Pittman as Teacher at Sumrall Elementary School effective Feb. 14; and Haleigh Hughes as Teacher at Oak Grove Upper Elementary School effective at the end of the 2016-17 school year.

•          Went into executive session to discuss student discipline appeals, student residency appeals and litigation updates.
