Samuel Clifton McCaffrey
Samuel Clifton McCaffrey, formerly of Hattiesburg, died March 7, 2017, at the Collins State Veterans Home. Services were March 13 at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg with burial in Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery.
Mr. McCaffrey was a Golden Gloves Championship contender. A disabled veteran, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He ran the McCaffrey’s family clothing store, worked as an Alaskan bush pilot for an oil company, was a real estate entrepreneur and ran The Smokehouse, a successful BBQ business in Long Beach.
Survivors include his daughter, Karen and Mike Owen of Springfield, Mo.; three sisters, Sue Fortenberry of Hattiesburg, Frances Robbins of Purvis and Judy Strickland of the Dixie Community; and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.L. “Red” McCaffrey, Sr. and Elma McCaffrey, and four brothers, James “Little Red” McCaffrey, Jr., Charles N. McCaffrey, Sr., Clarence Ray McCaffrey and William David McCaffrey, Sr.
