Holifield, William Carey dominates Thursday

HATTIESBURG – No. 4 William Carey University left little to doubt, as it opened SSAC play in grand fashion, with an 8-0 win over Dalton State University Thursday evening at Crusader Field.

Carey dominated the Road Runners from the start as Silvia Leonessi (So./Esbjerg, Denmark), Kelly Stubbington (Jr./Hornchurch, England) and Naomie Guerra (So./Trinidad & Tobego) netted first-half goals to put WCU up 3-0 at intermission.

The blitz continued in the second half as Savanah Carter (Jr./Ocean Springs) scored twice, while Jamie Holifield (Jr./Petal), Alex Musial (Jr,/Gulfport), and Kaylee Zettler (So./Meridian) each notched goals. Carey would outshoot the visitors 30 to 2 for the game.

WCU returns to action at home on Saturday as it hosts Faulkner University. Kickoff is set for 1:30 pm at Crusader Field.
