BROOKLYN – For the majority of the Thursday night’s Region 7-4A tournament semifinal featuring Poplarville and Purvis, it was a close game. However, it was the third quarter that put the Tornadoes behind the eight ball.

After going into halftime down 24-22, Purvis was outscored 18-7 in the third to fall behind 42-29 heading into the final frame. The Hornets started the third quarter on a 13-4 run, then finished the quarter and began the fourth on a 9-0 run.

Purvis did make the game interesting in the fourth, though. The Tornadoes reeled off eight straight points to cut it to 58-40, but Poplarville matched Purvis point for point to finish the game.

Junior CJ Bolar led the team with 12 points, and sophomore Matthew Ryals, Keyshaun Bolar and Dakota Smith each added 11 points.

Purvis will play the host team, Forrest County AHS, Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the third place game to determine playoff positioning.
