Last May, Joe Hartfield was on top of the world. The Hattiesburg Tigers had just clinched the school’s first state baseball championship since 2006, and it was the first title of Hartfield’s head-coaching career. Some know the pain he has dealt with during the last couple of years, but most don’t know the whole truth.




School or turn pro? Gray finds peace during intense situations

Believe it or not, there are some things Joe Gray enjoys doing as much as being on the baseball diamond.

Almost.

When he’s not roaming center field or in the batting cages, Gray most likely has a line in the water catching fish at a local pond. It’s what he does to unwind when he faces a stressful situation.







Coach of the Year: Hartfield pushes all the right buttons in title run

The Buffalo Bills did something no other NFL franchise has ever done by advancing to four straight Super Bowls in the 1990s. However, they failed to win the big game all four times, and while Hattiesburg coach Joe Hartfield didn’t make consecutive trips to the State Championship, he was 0-for-3 in his career.
