Petal School District outlines new text message system, bus and safety protocol

In anticipation of the new school year, Petal School District officials are implementing a handful of new procedures, including a new anonymous text messaging system for students and updated school bus protocol.

The new measures were announced at a press conference Monday at the Petal Soccer Fieldhouse behind Petal High School.

District kicks off second semester with mid-year convocation

At the Petal School District mid-year convocation, the district announced both the overall Petal Teacher and Administrator of the Year.

Lori Johnson, a teacher at Petal Upper Elementary School, was named Petal Teacher of the Year. This is the second year that an upper elementary school teacher claimed the title.



Stamp Out Hunger: Leave bag of nonperishable items for postman Saturday

Saturday, May 12,  marks the 26th anniversary of the National Association of Letter Carriers' "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive. It’s the second year that Community Bank of Hattiesburg has been providing bags for the foodraiser. Approximately 55,000 bags will be distributed to Pine Belt residents during this week.
