Errant bullets hit Fifth Street home

By STAFF REPORTS,

Hattiesburg Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of West Fifth Street around noon Sunday.

When officers arrived and talked with a victim, she said something hit her residence.  As officers searched the front side of the house, they found a hole in a front window that appeared to be from a bullet.

From witness statements, the house apparently was not hit on purpose, and the shooting was linked to suspects in the roadway at Main and Fifth streets.

Ricardo Hollingsworth, 44, was arrested at the scene and charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

Witnesses in the area gave officers information about a dark-colored vehicle with a busted rear glass and broken sideview mirror driving down Main Street at the time of the shooting. Later that afternoon, officers located the vehicle involved in the shooting on Diamond Street.

Terrence Haynes, 21, was taken into custody at a home on Diamond Street and charged with drive-by shooting and possession of a stolen weapon.

Other arrests are pending in the ongoing investigation. Anyone with any information can contact Hattiesburg Police or Metro Crime Stoppers at (601) 582-STOP.
