Petal Chamber to hold lunch for Administrative Professionals

Since 1952, Administrative Professionals’ Week has been held around the world to recognize the workplace contributions and achievements of secretaries, administrative assistants, office managers and other office staff.

And for the 15th year in a row, the Friendly City will get in on the celebration with the 2018 Administrative Professionals Luncheon, scheduled from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. April 25 at Petal Civic Center.

“It’s really just a ‘thank you’ to anybody in your office that the boss wants to recognize,” said Valerie Wilson, executive director of the Petal Area Chamber of Commerce. “This is our 16th one, and it’s just kind of grown every year.”

This year’s event, hosted by the Petal Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Forrest General’s Spirit of Women, will carry the theme of “Laughter is an Instant Vacation.”

Along with the catered lunch – which will include celebrity waiters such as local politicians, church figures and city officials - each honoree will receive a special gift in honor of their dedication. Representatives from Spirit of Women will be available to provide information on that organization, and several door prizes will be awarded.

In keeping with the motif of the event, professional comedian Mutzie – who has appeared on six seasons of BET’s Comic View and twice named New Orleans Entertainer of the Year – will be on hand to entertain guests.

“We have so many bosses – the employers – say that for the price of a ticket to that luncheon, they get so much,” Wilson said. “Some of the bosses have no idea what they should be doing or buying for their professionals, and this just answers that need.

“They’ll get gifts and door prizes, and it’ll be fun. Great meal, great entertainment – it just takes a load off of the boss.”
