No. 10 Bobcats get road sweep at Baton Rouge CC

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – The 10th-rated Jones County Junior College Bobcats took two games from Baton Rouge Community College (Louisiana) here Thursday afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field.

In game one, the Bobcats broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the top of the seventh inning and beat the Bears, 5-3. In game two, JCJC pounded out 12 hits and defeated BRCC, 12-5.

The Bobcats, winners of eight straight, are now 27-7 overall.

JCJC returns to MACJC play for an important 3 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday at Mississippi Gulf Coast.

The Bears, 12-30, travel to No. 1 LSU-Eunice for a 3-game series Friday-Sunday.

Bobcats 5, Bears 3

Robbie Woody (Madison Central) got a base hit with two outs in the top of the seventh. An error on the play allowed both R.J. Brown (Columbus, Georgia) and Trace Henry (Mooreville) to score and give the Bobcats a two-run lead.

Henry had two singles in the game and Stephen Matthews (Tupelo) belted a solo home run. Woody, Brown, Luther Woullard (D’Iberville), Brandon Hale (Pontotoc) and Tate Pepper (Ocean Springs) had singles for JCJC.

Cooper Brune (Ocean Springs) pitched the first six innings and got the win. He allowed three runs, four hits, walked one and struck out eight as he improved to 8-0. Bryce Fagan (Petal) pitched the final inning and notched his fourth save. He allowed no runs, one hit, walked one and struck out one.

Starter Joseph Battaglia went 6.2 innings and took the loss. He gave up five runs (three earned), eight hits, walked one and struck out one.

Hunter David doubled and singled for Baton Rouge.

The game was tied 2-2 after one inning and JCJC led 3-2 after four. BRCC tied it in the bottom of the sixth before JCJC took the lead in the seven.

Bobcats 12, Bears 5

Henry doubled and singled twice to lead the Bobcats at the plate.

Miguel Morgan (South Jones) doubled and singled and Woody had two singles. Jake Mason (West Lauderdale) and Brown had doubles with Hale, Jacob Vick (East Central) and Hudson Harris (West Jones) adding singles.

D.J. Alexander (Gretna, Louisiana) was the starter for Jones. He went 3.1 innings, allowed three runs (two earned), three hits, walked two and struck out three. Payton Harris (Oak Grove) went the final 3.2 innings and was credited with the win, going to 8-0 on the season. He gave up two runs (one earned), three hits, walked none and struck out seven.

Seth Daugherty doubled and singled to lead BRCC.

Starter Brett Fisackerly went 3.2 innings and got the loss. He allowed six runs (four earned), six hits, walked three and struck out two.

The game was tied 1-1 after one inning. JCJC led 2-1 after two, 5-1 after three, 6-3 after four and 8-4 after five. The Bobcats scored four runs in the top of the seventh.
