No. 15 Lady Bobcats whip No. 23 Meridian Thursday

MERIDIAN – The 15th-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats beat Meridian Community College 7-2 Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Bobcats are now 14-3.

In the men’s match, the No. 10 Eagles defeated No. 25 JCJC, 7-2. The Bobcats are 6-11.

The Bobcats host Holmes at 1 p.m. Friday to end regular season play. It will be “Sophomore Day” at the Howard Sports Complex Tennis Courts.

Meridian hosts East Central Friday.

The MACJC/Region 23 Tournament will be April 19-21 in Meridian.

JCJC swept the doubles points.

Mireia Jordan (Spain) and Ariadna Jordan (Spain) blanked Julia McCarty and Amanda Lowery in No. 1 doubles, 8-0. Beth Owen (Stone) and Kaylee McLaurin (Laurel Christian School) beat Kenedy Rodriguez and Rachel Sollie in No. 2 doubles, 8-3. August Parker (Northeast Jones) and Brooke Cran (Wayne County) defeated Katherine Mitchell and Kelsea Baksh in No. 3 doubles, 8-3.

Mireia Jordan whipped McCarty in No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Ariadna Jordan rallied past Rodriguez in No. 2 singles, 6-7, 6-3, 10-4. Owen beat Sollie in No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2. McLaurin defeated Lowery in No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-3.

Mitchell edged Parker in No. 5 singles, 5-7, 7-6, 10-6. Baksh downed Cran in No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-4.

Madison Hester beat Kaitlyn Craig (Petal) in an extra match, 8-5.

The Lady Eagles are now 11-11.

Eagles 7, Bobcats 2

JCJC’s wins came in No.’s 3 and 4 singles.

Cody Courtney (Florence) rallied past Zachery Presnall in No. 3 singles, 3-6, 6-4, 10-5. James Estrada (St. Stanislaus) outlasted Callan Shinall in No. 4 singles, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.

In No. 1 doubles, Will Swindoll and Lachlan Ivulich beat Mitar Milosavljevic (Serbia) and Cody Courtney (Florence), 8-3. Marco Puric and Shinall defeated Noel Monsalve (Venezuela) and Estrada in No. 2 doubles, 8-6. Max Mauney and Ethan Clopton downed Erich Fischer (Wesson) and Jed Slover in No. 3 doubles, 8-3. In an extra match, Michail Phillips and Chase Rigdon defeated Daniel Tanious (Laurel Christian School) and Conner Henderson (Petal), 8-1.

Puric beat Milosavljevic in No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Ivulich downed Monsalve in No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Mauney edged Fischer in No. 5 singles, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8. Swindoll defeated Tanious in No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0.

In extra matches, Rigdon beat Slover, 6-0, 6-2, and Phillips defeated Henderson, 6-0, 6-1.

The Eagles are now 12-6.
